The letters of our thoughts are the ideas present in our mind before they come to realization . . . Thoughts that are, yet not felt . . . The words of the subconscious . . . of the soul . . .

These are the LETTERS OF MY THOUGHTS.

PSA

Those who have been following this blog for sometime know about my three weeks spent in Simferopol. The Lipszycs, the Shluchim there, do great work, and now is our chance to help them out!

They have been nominated, and we ask you to please help us win.  By pushing a button on your computer or cell phone twice a day (voting is permitted every 12 hours,) you can help us win!
The Jewish Community Heroes campaign celebrates the selflessness and courage of those who put others before themselves; to shine a national spotlight on the unsung, whether their work impacts five people or 5,000. They’ll honor five finalists in November at their General Assembly in Washington, D.C.  Of the five finalists, one will be named the Jewish Community Hero of the Year, and will win $25,000 to be used for their work.

This is the link.  Please bookmark it in your computer, and set yourself a reminder to vote every day.  It's very simple, and only takes seconds.  You will only be asked for your email address and zip code, once.

Please pass this on to everyone you know, and post it on any social networks you belong to, forums, and spread the word in your communities and synagogues.

Thank you very much!  With wishes for all that is good in the coming year!

Sorry man I'm voting for Devorah Benjamin. She's helped a ton of my friends and if I wasn't getting married in Milwaukee probably would have been me too...

Just like a guy said...

I don't see her on the list?

yeah mottel, bad move. Lipshits doesn't have a chance, but Devorah Benjamin is way up there in the top ten. I'm totally going for Mrs. Benjamin.

Mottel -- thank you!

Guys -- you can vote for AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU WANT! We are also voting for Devorah! Obviously, if you vote for too many, it won't help.

Devorah started earlier, but if everyone will help, we also stand a chance.

Four runners up also win something.

Even the publicity may help, but our school desperately needs the money to exist.

Please help us by VOTING every 12 hours AT http://www.jewishcommunityheroes.org/nominees/profile/yitzchok-lipszyc/ and SPREADING THE WORD.

THANKS!

Leah Lipszyc

E: you heard it from the boss herself . . .
For the record, if devorah were to ask me to put a message up, I'd do it as well.

Looks like Rabbi Yonah Bookstein has taken a commanding lead. You just can't beat those kids in California with their Web 2.0 narishkeit!

I voted for at least 10 people. I think we should all vote for all the Lubavitchers. Stick together peeps.

The way the contest works is that a judging panel will select 5 finalists from the top 10 vote getters. These will be invited to the General Assembly in DC - the annual gathering of all the Jewish Federations and Federation affiliated organizations in North America. One will then be selected by the judging panel to win the $25,000. How likely do you think it is that a UJC panel will select a Chabadnik as the winner? Let alone one that is not a current resident of North America? Chabad's relationship with the UJC has been a mixed bag at best and while Chabad and UJC have had isolated instances of cooperation in various cities, and more and more Chabad Rabbis participate in the GA, the vast bulk of Chabad families do not make contributions to the UJC. the relationship thus far has been a little one-sided. I think I'd rather spend my time on more productive work. Asking us to vote for the growing list of Chabadniks every day for 2 months is asking a bit much. If instead of voting we simply put a dime into a pushka every day, we would surely, as a community, raise more than $25,000 which we could then donate to a worthy cause.

But if you're going to vote, isn't it a little not nice to publicly insist that we vote only for Chabad candidates? Each person should of course vote as he sees fit, but to suggest that only Lubavitchers are heroic, don't you see a problem with that? There are people on the list who feed the poor and the hungry, who are working to make the world a better place, who help spread and encourage the love of Torah and Yiddishkeit. I think it's undignified to treat this like an "us-vs-them" game.

Yiddle: Good points all, but you obviously don't understand how the Jewish mind works.

A dime a day is roughly $36. You are all welcome to send that or more to Chabad of Crimea (and other tzedakas obviously.)

You can donate here:

https://www.mychabad.org/templates/articlecco.asp?aid=524499&jewish=Donate.htm&lang=en&site=chabadcrimea.org

Or we can send you a pushka. Contact us at chassidism@gmail.com

Thanks! And a wonderful year filled with blessings to all of you!

I'd rather do that then click 20 times a day for a month on the off chance that one of us will win $25k. Thanks for the link! And just to make it easier for everyone, I will embed the link:

CLICK HERE to donate much needed funds to Chabad of Crimea!

the guy with the most votes is Yonah Bookstein. I noticed that on his blog he has a link to vote for him, but the link doesn't take you to his profile page. It takes you to the page that thanks you for voting for him. Maybe that's how he ended up ahead?

Thank you Yiddle! Now if people would only start clicking on the link you provided to donate to us!

Our school is only able to open if I pay at least part of least year's way overdue salaries THIS WEEK! So please either go to the link above, that Yiddle provided, or copy/paste:

https://www.mychabad.org/templates/articlecco.asp?AID=524499

As far as the contest goes, the more Chabadniks we all vote for, the more will be in the top ten, and the more chance one of us has for winning. It is not the one with the most votes who neccessarily wins, but the one chosen from the top ten.

e: Most of the messages asking people to vote contain links that generate an immediate vote. Rabbi Yonah Bookstein seems to be in the lead because he has the support of Jewlicious, a very popular Jewish blog, and most of their people are young, Internet savvy and online every day. I am following this because I have a professional interest in social networking, but as a fundraising strategy for Chabad it's a terrible waste of time.

What will the other people visiting the Jewish heroes site think when they see a bunch of Chabadniks on the leaderboard, knowing full well that as a community we hardly ever donate money to local Federations?

Strategically it would be best to focus our votes on one Hero and at least benefit from the publicity rather than look like schnorrers out for a quick cash grab.
