The other week I put up a
video of the source of MBD's song "Lichtiger Shabbos" from the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream coat. Since the source of the song also deals somewhat with Jewish themes, I figured it would be worth a shot at rewording the original . . . Making it into a song about the trails of the Yidden during the Holocaust, times of the Communists and the like.
An uninspired lyricist, I know, but I hope my work bears some quality -If anyone can improve on it, add your changes in the comments.
Close Every Door
Close every door to me,
Entrap me, enslave me
- take me from Torah
And shut out my light!
Do what you want with me,
Hate me and laugh at me
Darken my daytime
And torture my night
If my life was merely this world I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world
- Children of Israel
Are never alone
For I know I've been told
They may ruin my body
But never my soul
Close every door to me,
Entrap me, enslave me
Send me away
And shut out my light
Just give me a number
Instead of my name
Darken my daytime
And torture my night
If my life was merely this world I
Would ask will I live or die
But I know the answers lie
Far from this world
Close every door to me,
Keep those I love from me
- Children of Israel
Are never alone
For I know we've been told
They may ruin our bodies
But never rule our souls.

this is rachel - you dont know me
Thanks for the comment!
This is my blog -a collection of my thoughts, writings, photos and other things that i find interesting . . .
The words are an adaptation of an existing song known as "Close Every Door to Me." -the song was used for a Jewish song known as Lichtiger Shabbos . . . Since the original words are also fitting for a Jewish song, I changed them around a bit.
May I ask how you came to this blog?
candid song on the reality the state of israel is facing increasingly right now;it also reminds me of the promises of god to israel as we read throughout the holy bible.
If you know them, could you please send me by email the complete and accurate lyrics to Lichtiger Shabbos, as I would like to do an English translation. I don't care whether the lyrics are in Hebrew or Latin alphabet. Viewing the video or listening to a recording would not help me, as I am hard of hearing and need the text in printed form. Thanks in advance.
