The Russian Bear Rears Its Head In Rostov

SHMAIS.com is horrified to have learned that 13 Lubavitcher Bochurim including some Talmidim HaShluchim from the Yeshiva in Rostov were arrested on Friday and then held under inhumane conditions in jail.

All the politics of the matter aside, I honestly don't know why people are so surprised.

Communism may be over, but the Russian animal has not evolved. Anyone who thinks that Putin supports Chabad out of the kindness of his heart is frankly deluding himself. We serve the purpose of improving Russia's image to the world -which is fine . . . as long as we don't let our guard down. In so much as our Russia's need, however, when the need is gone -or more pressing maters come to head - then why do we expect anything less then the beastly embrace of the bear?
