Someone mentioned a film about a chassidic dropout/rebel/whatever in the comments here . . .
How tired can the subject get?
Those who have left the fold have free choice -and though I stand am from the opposite extreme . . . having come into what they left . . . I feel they should be left to their own.
(In general I would say there are two types of dropouts -based on desire . . . ba'ali ta'avo, as it where, who began to go off at 14 -they tend to hang around their families, yeshiva etc. Then there are the famous 'philosophers' -the 'geniuses' who went of at some latter point . . . Whatever)
But how tired can the story get? I realize its still a thrill to the outside world -but come on already . . .
Israelis have been making junk like this for years, even the indies here in the states have done it in the past.
In truth, this stuff can be found amongst the Yiddishistim -Singer (my landsman from Bilgoraj) and his ilk . . . though without the drugs . . .
But amongst ourselves . . . can't we think of something new?
Anyhow . . .
