I mentioned in a previous post that my disgust for all things superficial and hypocritical, stemmed from my Kotzker blood . . .
There's more to that, however . . .
Every Ba'al Tshuvah (returnee to Judaism) must be a kotztker, he must be so thoroughly disgusted with the lies of life (Those parts of life that are lies -not everything is bad) that he removes himself from all things that he knows -in search of the truth.
The trick, however, is not to cut oneself off from the world at large. One must keep away form the bad, but use out the good . . . we need not hide ourselves from all.
I see the problems in my current situation -it drives me mad. It drives me mad that the only thing that speaks here is money and the like, that there is a sickly apathy that envelops all the events -or lack thereof- that are here. Nothing happens, and -at the current rate- nothing will continue to happen.
Yet there is good.
It would be far from prudent to through the baby out with the bath water -even it is an ugly baby.
All of us are Mariners, floating in the sea of life, searchers for the truth . . .
There are several Blogs in the J-blogosphere written be people disgusted with the faults of our communities and the like.
Are they right?
The problems that they see, are real -sometimes all too real . . . A person removes himself from one sphere of reality due to the problems found there with in -be they noticed consciously or not- and upon settling into a new realm of existence they find that it too contains flaws.
Yet they fail to realize that we are all in the same boat. The Torah is perfect, because G-d, in his infinite essence is perfect. We, however, have faults. We are all mariners in the sea of life, trying to use the Torah as a point of focus. The flaws are ours, but we must fix them -not trash them.
The mariner at times may say,
"Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink."
Yet the Prophet shouts, "All who are thirsty go to water . . ."
If we drink, we will see that the water is sweet.
